“Pilgrims Pride”

Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. NYSE: PPC, headquartered in Pittsburg, Texas, is the largest chicken producer in the United States and Puerto Rico and the second-largest chicken producer in Mexico.

For over six decades, Pilgrim’s Pride has produced healthy, high-quality food products that go into some of the world’s finest recipes.

In fact, we developed a number of those recipes ourselves, so consumers of our products could enjoy and benefit from them to the fullest.

On July 20, 2004, PETA released a video claiming to show cruelty to chickens at Pilgrim’s Pride.

In July 2004, PETA revealed the results of an investigation into a KFC-supplying slaughterhouse in Moorefield, West Virginia, where workers were caught on video stomping on chickens, kicking them, and violently slamming them against floors and walls.

The world’s leading animal welfare experts condemned the cruelty at this KFC supplier.

Workers also ripped the animals’ beaks off, twisted their heads off, spat tobacco into their eyes and mouths, spray-painted their faces, and squeezed their bodies so hard that the birds expelled feces—all while the chickens were still alive.

Pierce Chicken is best known for its brand-name Wing Dings, Wing Zings, and various other prepared food products.

Pilgrim’s Pride held an investigation and fired eleven employees and has provided ongoing animal welfare training to its work force, however, none of the employees involved in the incident faced any criminal charges.

The best thing you can do to help spare animals from such torture is to stop eating them and, thus, stop supporting the industry that allows such cruelty to occur.

On October 12, 2002, Pilgrim’s Pride recalled 27.4 million pounds of sliced deli poultry after finding a strain of Listeria monocytogenes in the drain of one of their facilities.
