Rick Suhr (pronounced shur) is an olympic level pole vaulting coach in Rochester, New York. In the last four years Suhrs athletes have won 11 National Championships in the pole vault at the high school, collegiate, and pro levels, (indluding 13 National Records). She also took first in the U.S. Olympic Trials in which she raised her own American Record in the process. 1

Jenn Stuczynski has huge natural talent. She has developed dramatically in the vault-her first season going thirteen feet, seven, coming into the national indoor and continuing her quick rise to the top of American women’s pole vault ranks. 2

Suhr was one of 4 brothers who have had celebrated wrestling careers. Suhr’s honors include a high school State Championship, All-American honors and an induction into The Wrestling Hall of Fame and Spencerport Athletic Hall of Fame. 4

It was near her graduation that local coach Rich Suhr, himself a sixteen and a half foot vaulter, spoke to her on campus. He challenged Jenn to see if she could do something not in her comfort zone-learn to pole vault. Suhr came to this conclusion about Stuczynski when he witnessed her athleticism in a pick up basketball game with men. Suhr asked her if she had ever considered vaulting. 6

After just over a year as a vaulter, Jenn won her first national championships, held in Boston’s Reggie Lewis Center. Jenn amazed and shocked the pole vault community with her win and quick rise to elite vaulting. 7

This tape features drills for the eight phases of the pole vault and uses younger athletes and world-class vaulters to demonstrate the techniques. Coaching points, common problems and corrections are all very valuable for the coach and athlete. 5
