Michael Pitt is a little unhappy that he isn’t more mainstream. It doesn’t bother him much. But it would be nice. It’s not that Pitt, who stars in Last Days (a gentle dirge of a movie directed by Gus Van Sant that is loosely based on the final days of the rock star Kurt Cobain’s life), wishes he could join the popular part of popular culture. It’s that he wishes the mainstream would join him. 1

Michael Pitt graduated from University College London in 1970 with a first class honours degree in Civil Engineering. He has worked for the civil service, private sector and local government, with the majority of his career in County Council Technical Departments. 2

Michael Pitt is an American actor and musician. He first debuted in an episode of the popular series Law & Order in 1998. The next year, he appeared in 15 episodes of Dawson’s Creek as Henry Parker. In 2001 he had a supporting role in the film Bully, which starred the late Brad Renfro. He rose to fame in 2002 for his role in Murder by Numbers, a film that starred Sandra Bullock and Ben Chaplin. 4

Teen star Lindsay Lohan is earning herself a Reese Witherspoon-esque gay following thanks to her recent turn in the queer-friendly Mean Girls, and her next project ought to cement the deal. Fashionistas, based on Lynn Messina’s frothy novel, follows the adventures of a young designer (Lohan) toiling as an assistant to a cruel female fashion magazine editor. Lohan’s character plans an elaborate revenge scheme, and things get wacky – but not so wacky that she doesn’t make time to fall in love with the only straight man in the business. Leave it to Hollywood to focus on the needle in that haystack. All the same, the movie will undoubtedly have lots of queer window-dressing. No word yet on shooting dates or who’ll play Lohan’s beau, but it’s a good bet he’ll upstage the movie’s outfits in the eye-candy department. 3

After the release of Last Days Michael brought Pagoda to Italy to spend a solid month in Luca Amendolara?s studio to record most of what has become their premier CD. Over 40 songs were recorded as well as a handful more back in Pagoda?s hometown of Brooklyn. Since this time Pagoda has changed radically as a band with almost all new members in place of the recording unit but the intense musical mind of Michael Pitt remains constant. 6

From Dawson’s Creek, he was cast in a small role in Van Sant’s Finding Forrester, which starred Sean Connery as misanthropic writer and is one of Van Sant’s more commercially-friendly films, and then as a rising rock star in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the story of a transsexual singer from Berlin and her young lover (Pitt) who steals her songs and rises to fame without her. Pitt didn’t move into the big budget movies, despite the attention Hedwig brought him: he tended to stick with directors he admired, like Larry Clark (Bully), Barbet Schroeder (Murder By Numbers), and Bernardo Bertolucci (The Dreamers). 10

Michael Pitt used to be soooo hot. He’s looking like a junkie! The actor was spotted arriving at a screening of the film Elegy in NYC on Tuesday night. Hedwig would not approve of her Tommy Gnosis like this! 9
