Keith Olbermann is a big tall pompous cheerleader for Obama and just as much a vulgar extremist in political journalism as the ultra right conservatives.

I fully support Keith Olbermann in his remarks to Hillary Clinton.

I used to be a big MSNBC fan but now find myself frequently changing the channel when I hear Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and David Shuster savaging Hillary Clinton unfairly. One thing you have to consider here is the fact that Olbermann is actually friends with Micheal Musto, and he was basically quoting him here

On Tuesday night, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann used his Countdown show to attack President Bush’s speech in which Bush compared modern day terrorists to Nazis and talked about Osama bin Laden’s stated plan to launch a “media campaign to create a wedge between the American people and their government.”

In the latest of a series of “Special Comments” attacking members of the Bush administration, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann used his Monday Countdown show to make an over-the-top demand for an apology from President Bush for his recent comments that it was “unacceptable to think” the actions of America could be compared to those of terrorists.

On Thursday’s Countdown, two days after comparing Newt Gingrich’s ideas on free speech and anti-terrorism measures to Naziism, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann aimed his latest “Special Comment” rant at the former House Speaker over a speech he gave at the Nackey S.



In 1997, Olbermann left ESPN to host his own primetime show on MSNBC, The Big Show with Keith Olbermann.

I am not going to run through it now - if you’re interested, there are 83 specific examples documented here here - but I am going to offer up an unbelievable statement made by Keith Olbermann on Wednesday night’s show as proof.

A n unfamiliar viewer tuning in to Keith Olbermann’s prime-time news program on MSNBC, Countdown, might, at first glance, assume he was watching a highly traditional broadcaster.

We’ve all seen the clips: Keith “Man on Fan” Olbermann responding to the RNC 9/11 tribute with his trademark manufactured outrage - complete with the catch in the voice and a healthy dose of theatrical indignation.

On the May 10, 2004, episode for Countdown, Olbermann said that the short-lived ABC dramedy Sports Night was based on his time on SportsCenter with Patrick.

Olbermann co-hosted an hour of the syndicated Dan Patrick Show on ESPN radio from 2005 until Patrick left ESPN on August 17, 2007. Patrick often introduced Olbermann with the tagline “saving the democracy,” a nod to his work on Countdown.

Olbermann has repeatedly named Bill O’Reilly, host of the The O’Reilly Factor on the Fox News Channel as his “Worst Person in the World.” The feud blossomed with Olbermann’s public celebration of O’Reilly’s 2004 sexual harassment suit by former Fox News Channel producer Andrea Mackris ; he jokingly kept track of money his viewers pledged to buy the tapes from Mackris and ran a “Save the Tapes” campaign.

On March 12, 2008, Olbermann used his “Special Comment” on Countdown to criticize the direction and management of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Clinton is “campaigning as if Barack Obama were the Democrat and were the Republican”, and pled with Senator Clinton to “take back the reins of the campaign from whoever has led you to this precipice”.

In Olbermann’s “Special Comment” segment on July 3, 2007, he called President George W. Bush’s commutation of Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s prison sentence the ” last straw,” and called for the resignation of Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

The next week, while a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Olbermann was asked to comment on the photo, which had appeared on the Drudge Report. Olbermann said he had been waving to a friend, though he added that “Bill O’Reilly has defended the Nazis from World War II on three separate occasions.”

After Olbermann left Fox Sports in 2001, he provided twice-daily sports commentary on the ABC Radio Network, reviving the “Speaking of Sports” and “Speaking of Everything” segments begun by Howard Cosell.

Olbermann also occasionally hosted the weekend edition of NBC Nightly News, and, along with Hannah Storm, co-hosted NBC Sports ” pre-game coverage of the 1997 World Series.

In February 2007, Olbermann launched a new blog, The News Hole. Countdown’ s format, per its name, involves Olbermann ranking the five biggest news stories of the day or sometimes “stories my producers force me to cover” as Olbermann puts it. This is done in numerical reversal or counting down with the first story shown being ranked fifth but apparently the most important.

The September 11, 2001 attacks provided the impetus for Olbermann to return to full-fledged news reporting. Murrow Award for reporting from the site of the attacks for 40 days on ABC Radio and Los Angeles radio station KFWB.

Olbermann began his professional career at UPI and RKO Radio before joining then nascent CNN in 1981. His work there earned him 11 Golden Mike Awards, and he was named Best Sportscaster by the California Associated Press three times.

Olbermann appeared as a guest on E!’s The Soup on July 25, 2008. In 1998, he stated that his work at MSNBC would “make me ashamed, make me depressed, make me cry.”

On 2007 - 04-16, Olbermann was named co-host of Football Night in America, NBC’s NFL pre-game show that precedes their Sunday Night NFL game.

Starting with the 2007 NFL season, Olbermann also serves as co-host of NBC’s Football Night in America with Bob Costas.

Olbermann started college at the age of 16 and in 1979 he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in communications arts from Cornell University, where he served as sports director for WVBR, a student-run commercial radio station in Ithaca.

The letter closed by asking Olbermann to “reconsider use of the Nazi salute in the future.” Olbermann used the open format of the blog to expand on facts or ideas alluded to in the broadcast, to offer personal musings and reactions, and to break news at odd hours.

August 8, 2005, the day following Peter Jennings ” death from lung cancer, Olbermann revealed on-air that he had a benign fibrous tumor removed from his palate just 10 days earlier. He vigorously urged his viewers not to wait until they see symptoms to quit.

Olbermann anchored MSNBC’s coverage of the death of fellow anchor Tim Russert on June 13, 2008. He presented a tribute, along with several fellow journalists, in honor of Russert.

Olbermann went from criticizing O’Reilly to confronting the Bush administration directly.

The episode featured Sideshow Bob whom Olbermann had previously compared to Bill O’Reilly.

Olbermann lives with Katy Tur, a reporter with WPIX-TV, in New York City. Along with Bob Costas, he supports the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation as an honorary board member.

Originally from New York City, Olbermann grew up in Westchester County, attending school at Hackley.

Investigative journalist Robert Parry has characterized Olbermann as being on the “left side of the scale.”

On August 16, 2005, Olbermann’s NBC colleague Mike Taibbi joined him for “I Quit” to discuss kicking the habit.

Olbermann - who never went to the Republican National Convention because of his assassination fear - succeeded in getting rid of GOP analyst Mike Murphy.

Edward R Olbermann will sit out the convention in New York in New York. On today’s Morning Joe, Scarborough took a thinly-veiled shot at Olbermann for the way he tried to keep Republican analyst Mike Murphy off the air, and then tried to pull the plug when Murphy eventually made it into an interview with Chris Matthews.

Olbermann will offer a special commentary on how the course of the nation was forever altered by the events of that day, and by the actions of the administration in the months and years afterward.

You could’ve called for reaction first if your main motive had merely been criticism. To be fair, Olbermann regularly does the same in his “Worst Persons” segment, which often calls out on-air personalities for their remarks.

I wonder. That would be when we cry out loud enough and write letters and boycott their sponsors and turn off MSNBC and watch CNN, which for my money has had a much more professional approach.

I do, however, appreciate the alacrity of Olbermann’s and MSNBC’s response. Update to the Update : Olbermann apologized on the air tonight, explaining that he ought to have made the statement pronoun-neutral and specific to politics; I am once again impressed with the alacrity of Olbermann and MSNBC.

Last night Olbermann called Ferraro’s statement ” clearly racist clearly racist ” and likening the Clinton campaign to South Africa under apartheid for not rejecting it and firing her.

Oh Keith will never do a Special COmment on Barack Obama and his sweetheart of a pastor.
