Fox announced today that it was going to take Moment of Truth off the fall schedule and replace it with its new import of Hole in the Wall, a game show that involves nothing more than people trying to jump through differently shaped holes in a styrofoam wall that will knock them into a pool if they don’t make it. That’s significant because Fox planned to use its he lie detector show to kill off Survivor Fox planned to use its he lie detector show to kill off Survivor.
Fox is making a late summer switch to its fall schedule, adding game show “Hole in the Wall” to its September lineup.
GET IN THE HOLE Fox adds “Hole in the Wall” to its fall lineup.
Fox has ordered 13 episodes of Hole in the Wall, a competition series based on a “body-bending, mind-twisting, global phenomenon” . The set-up: Two teams of players must contort their bodies/limbs to fit through cutouts in fast-approaching walls.
The show still revolves around players contorting their bodies into all sorts of odd shapes in order to fit through a hole in a moving wall.
Fuji TV launched “Hole in the Wall” in July 2006. FremantleMedia has since produced eight international versions of the format in countries such as Australia, Russia and India.
Hole in the Wall already has a cult following online , and the novelty of a fun new game show versus a familiar reality show might affect ratings, at least initially.
Fox has ordered 26 half-hour epsiodes of “Hole,” but will air the show as an hour.
Darnell said he’s cautiously optimistic about “Hole’s” ability to break through this fall.
Frot-Coutaz indicated FMNA and Fox are looking to develop “Hole” as a family-friendly skein. Network has ordered a pilot and will decide later this year whether to greenlight the project to series.
“Hole,” based on a Japanese format in which contestants play a form of human Tetris, will air Thursday nights from 8 to 9 p.m., starting Sept. It replaces the previously scheduled second season of shock game show “The Moment of Truth,” which will return midseason.
The scheduling means “Hole” will be pitted against reality granddaddy “Survivor,” ABC’s “Ugly Betty” and NBC’s modestly rated “My Name Is Earl” and newcomer “Kath and Kim.”
“It’s already established.”
The original show dropped players just a few feet into water, but Fox is considering increasing the height of the plunge and changing up the “bath” contents with each round.
The original is a hilarious show but I’m sure Fox will find a way to ruin it.
FOX better put the show on the air fast because the U.S. is presently about 60-65% overweight so they may not be able to find many contestants in the near future.
This being FOX, the latter part of that sentence is worrisome, especially for prospective contestants.
Try to squeeze a square body through a round hole, and you get dumped into the drink.
