Why Heather D Aoust


A 15-year-old San Diego girl who is accused of killing her 56 year old mother by beating her in the head with a hammer and allegedly had the homicide on her personal to-do list, prosecutors allege in court documents.

Kristen Spieler, the deputy district attorney prosecuting the case, said that after careful consideration of the details of the case, the decision was made to try the teen as an adult.

“I can tell you in this case, the facts of the case, as well as the surrounding circumstances, were very closely analyzed by senior deputies in this office, as well as by the district attorney, as well as by the homicide team who presented this case,” Spieler said.

She is also faces an assault charge as she also is alleged to have attacked James D’Aoust, her father.

James D’Aoust confirmed to NBC 7/39 that Heather D’Aoust has a history of mental illness.

The 14-year-old San Diego girl has pleaded not guilty to charges that she murdered her mother with a claw hammer and assaulted her father.

Prosecutors have charged Heather d’Aoust as an adult.

A defense attorney said after Thursday’s arraignment she has a history of mental illness and should be tried in juvenile court.

Father James d’Aoust says the girl, who was adopted as a child, needs psychological help.

Fifty-six-year-old Rebecca d’Aoust died Monday, a day after she was struck in the head at the family’s home in the upscale Scripps Ranch area.

Heather d’Aoust was ordered held without bail.
