A USC student was fatally stabbed today while walking in the University Park area near the campus, authorities said.

Bryan Richard Frost, 23, a cinematic arts student, was stabbed about 2:10 a.m.

Officials said there was no indication that the assailant was a student or knew Frost, and there was no evidence the incident was gang-related.

Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died.

“They grappled on the ground and at one point it appeared that the fight was over and the student was on his feet and he reported to his friends that he felt something wet about his abdomen.”

The suspect came out from behind the gate and began fighting with Frost.

Nevertheless, they urged students to take precautions at night, such as calling for the free car ride service USC provides and not walking alone.

Jens Midthun, president of USC’s undergraduate student body and a Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity brother of Frost’s, described the campus as deeply in grief and worried about safety.
