With no agreement, the case likely would go to trial in 2010. Wilberger, a 19-year-old Brigham Young University student, vanished on May 24, 2004, from a Corvallis apartment building parking lot. Her body has never been found, but she is presumed dead.
Brooke Wilberger is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weight 105 to 110 pounds, with shoulder-length blonde hair, blue eyes. She has a scar on her right arm from her elbow to her wrist and was last seen wearing jeans and a Brigham Young University sweatshirt.
Police and the family fear the girl has been abducted. A freshman at BYU, Brooke Wilberger was visiting her sister and brother-in-law in Corvallis. Authorities say she was last seen by her sister cleaning lighting fixtures in the parking area of her sister’s apartment complex. Her cleaning supplies were left behind, and police found a piece of her clothing in the lot. Police and volunteers have been searching a rugged park area near the complex.
Brooke Wilberger was last seen wearing blue jeans, a gray Brigham Young University t-shirt with “BYU Soccer” in small print, small hoop earrings, and a ring inscribed with the letters “CTR”. She may also have had with her an indigo “Fresh Jive” brand sweatshirt. Brooke has pierced ears and a scar on her right arm from her wrist to her elbow from a gymnastics accident.
Courtney’s whereabouts are unknown between May 24, 2004 — the day Wilberger disappeared, and also the day Courtney was supposed to appear in court on DUI charges — and May 26, when he showed up at a hospital emergency room complaining of chest pain and high blood pressure, symptoms investigators say is ?consistent with someone laboring under a high level of anxiety commonly produced after a major criminal event? An affidavit filed by a Corvallis, Oregon police detective said that Courtney offered two conflicting explanations of where he’d been: ?The first being that he had been the recent victim of a kidnapping and the second being simply that he had to get out of Oregon because the ?cops were after him?
Wilberger’s family told police that Brooke is a devout, studious Mormon who doesn’t smoke, drink or party. Her longtime boyfriend is currently in South America on a mission trip.
Brooke Wilberger was reported missing Monday, after she disappeared from an apartment complex across the street from Oregon State University’s football stadium. She had been visiting her sister and brother-in-law while on summer break from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
